Abstract:
This map shows the proposed protected areas on Pohnpei. The dataset was created by The Nature Conservancy based on the results of the workshop convened in 2014 by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Conservation Society of Pohnpei (CSP), and Pohnpei State Governor’s Office to discuss the design of Pohnpei’s Protected Areas Network (PAN). Inputs to this dataset were current as of 4 August 2015. These data now have the attribute schema modeled from the WDPA dataset. This is the EDIT version. The following types of updates will be completed on this dataset: (1) Attribute value updates, (2) boundary edits, and (3) adding in new features. Note that areas that are no longer active as managed areas should remain in the dataset and only have their STATUS value updated.
Purpose: This map shows the proposed protected areas on Pohnpei.

The dataset is included in the Digital Atlas of Micronesia, module Pohnpei, created by Island Research & Education Initiative (iREi), in collaboration with Water and Environmental Research Institute of the Western Pacific (WERI) University of Guam and partial funding from United States Geological Survey (USGS), under WRRI 104-B Program, project # 2016GU302B.

This numbering assumes that no country will have more than 9,999 managed areas and that any given managed area would not have more than 99 Zones. A unique ID will enable intelligent queries and the ability to house all managed areas in one single GIS database.
